st Elementary School. In sixth grade, the family moved to Manson, Iowa, where he finished the school year before relocating to Webster City. He went on to graduate from Webster City High School in 1987. During his high school years, Roger enjoyed playing tennis and spending time hunting and fishing with his father. From a young age, his playful and fun-loving spirit was evident--often showing through in the pranks he loved to play on his sister and mother. Upon graduation from high school, Roger enlisted in the military, serving his country faithfully with the U.S. active duty Army from 1987 to 1992. After completing basic training in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, he was stationed at Fort Lewis, Washington where he proudly served as a Unit Level Communications Maintainer. He was honorably discharged in 1992 at the rank of Sergeant. As a U.S. Army veteran, he was a proud member of the American Legion. During his time in the Army, Roger earned his Associate's degree in Electronic Engineer Technology. After his military commitment, he relocated to central Iowa, where he began working for Ag Leader Technology as their first full-time employee while simultaneously taking courses at Iowa State University. In 2000, he completed his Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and transitioned into an engineering role at Ag Leader. He went on to build a distinguished 30-plus year career with the company. In April 1994, Roger Moved to Story City, where he lived for nearly 27 years before relocating to Huxley in 2021 to spend his final years. He was a proud and devoted father to his daughter, Jennifer Olson (Demiter). Roger took immense pride in being a parent, always encouraging her to flourish and pursue her dreams. He created a home filled with love, joy, and plenty of laughter. Even during life's challenges, like helping his daughter with math homework, he always remained patient and kind. Roger found great joy in the everyday moments of parenting, and Jennifer was a constant source of pride and happiness. He celebrated her accomplishments wholeheartedly and cherished coaching her in soccer, t-ball, basketball, track, softball, and volleyball. To Roger, being a parent wasn't just a role- it was "The greatest job he ever had". He built a Christ-centered home, where the word of God was both taught and lived. His greatest desire was for his daughter and friends to know and follow the Lord. In May of 2022, Roger met Sue Maher, his long-term girlfriend and the love of his life, who lives in Ottumwa. They enjoyed watching sports together, watching the grandkids, and spending time with friends. Sue's daughter, Katie Brice and her husband, Alex, reside in Marion, along with their two children, Max and Sloane Brice, whom Roger loved dearly. He took great joy in being a grandfather and treasured the time he spent with Sue and her family. Roger found joy in life's simple pleasures and meaningful moments. He loved driving gravel roads in search of deer, bow hunting for deer and turkey, and tinkering with circuit boards and electrical projects in his spare time. He enjoyed the challenge of a good game of chess just as much as he loved dominating in Mario Kart on the Wii, cheering on the Cyclones, or playing sports with his daughter. Roger was a gifted storyteller who had a way of making people laugh until they cried -- a trait his friends and family will never forget. Above all, Roger was devoted to the people he loved. He never missed a sporting event his daughter participated in, and he always showed up with pride and unwavering support. He treasured time spent with Jennifer, his girlfriend Sue, and his many close friends. Roger was also a man of deep faith, often reading his Bible and striving to live each day with strong values, integrity, and purpose while grounded in his belief in the Lord. Roger had an incredibly quick wit, known for his clever one-liners, impromptu goofy dance moves, and a rare ability to light up any room he walked into. He never failed to put a smile on your face or a laugh in your belly. He was the kind of coach everyone hopes to have, he brought out the best in those around him -- always guiding with encouragement and never making anyone feel less than. His calm, comforting presence made people feel at ease just by being near him. Roger had a truly selfless heart. He would drop anything to help someone in need, whether it was a close friend or a complete stranger. His spiritual gift was a servant's heart -- not motivated by recognition, but by a deep, genuine desire to love and serve others. He was generous, dependable, and full of compassion -- the kind of person who made the world feel a little softer and a little kinder, just by being in it. Roger's life was a true testament to faith, love, and laughter. He touched countless lives with his kindness, his unwavering support, and the steady light of his faith. He leaves behind a legacy of compassion, humor, and selfless service -- one that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. Roger was deeply loved, and words cannot express how much he will be missed. Though his time here felt far too short, the impact he made will last for generations. We find peace in knowing that he is now at rest, and has heard the words, "Well done, good and faithful servant" (Matthew 25:23). His life was a reflection of God's love, and now, he is home. Roger is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Olson (Demiter) and her husband Ben Olson and his sister Renae Demiter and her wife Tracey Demiter. He is also survived by his longtime girlfriend, Sue Maher and her family, Katie Brice and Alex Brice and his grandchildren Max and Sloane Brice. He leaves behind several aunts, uncles, cousins, many dear friends, and all those whose lives were made brighter by his presence. Roger was preceded in death by his father Paul Robert Demiter, his mother Martha Marie Demiter (McQuaid), and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
