Evelyn Jeanne Pierce passed away peacefully on May 24, 2025. She was born Evelyn Jeanne Lewis to Jasper and Frances Lewis on April 15, 1929, in Iowa Falls. She graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1947, soon after beginning work as a secretary at Ralston Purina in Iowa Falls. She married John L. Pierce in 1949. The couple had three children: Francine, Suzanne, and Joseph. After the children entered school, Evelyn worked for many years at Iowa Falls State Bank. She was a dependable colleague and a devoted friend to many in Iowa Falls and beyond. After moving with husband John to Grimes, IA in 2004, Evelyn volunteered and worked for a time at the Grimes Library and attended and volunteered at Walnut Hills United Methodist Church in Urbandale. As her family grew, Evelyn welcomed in-laws, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren with open arms, helping each feel special and loved. During the past three years at Northridge Village care center in Ames, Evelyn extended appreciation and encouragement to her Northridge caregivers and co-residents. he also enjoyed birdwatching, whether it was watching pelicans arrive in the spring along Saylorville Lake or seeing red wing blackbirds and goldfinches just outside her window at Northridge Village. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents, Jasper Lewis and Frances Lewis Mayer, her husband John L. Pierce, and her sister, Donna Klein. Evelyn's survivors include Francine (Francis) Oppold, Suzanne (Charles) Kelsey, Joseph (Martha) Pierce; grandchildren Ginny (Brian) Washburne, Mary (Michael) Huisenga, Michael (Rachel) Oppold, Jesse (Melanie) Kelsey, Keegan (Natasha Udpa) Kelsey, and Anna (Alan Arakkal) Pierce). Her great-grandchildren include Michael, Owen, and Kellan Washburne; Henry Huisenga; Jackson, Evelyn, and Lillian Oppold; Finn and Liam Kelsey; and Ashoka and Akash Kelsey. A memorial service for Evelyn will be held Saturday, June 14 at 1:00 p.m. at Walnut Hills United Methodist Church, 12321 Hickman Rd., Urbandale, IA. The family asks any gifts to be directed to a charity of the giver's choice.
