pecially devoting their time and care to their daughter, Karin who had MS, and her four children. Neal was very social and enjoyed being involved in the community. He was active in the Homer Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge for over 70 years. He worked with the Thurston County and the Dakota/Thurston County Fair Board for over 40 years and for many years was the Chairman. He also served as Chair of Homer's Omaha Valley Cemetery, was on the Winnebago School Board, and was on the Winnebago Fire Department as the Secretary/Treasurer. Neal loved to be with family and friends, often over a game of cribbage or cards, the breakfast table at Verna Jean's in Homer, a bowl of ice cream, or an ear of sweet corn fresh from the field. He loved to farm and raise cattle. He also loved to read, ride horses, take drives, and visit his daughter Susan and her family in Arizona every winter. He enjoyed telling and listening to a good story, working on improvement projects in his farm shop or basement, "stretching out" for a quick nap, or watching activities from his picture window. Neal had a big personality, a big laugh, and a big heart - and he will be so greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Ruth; daughter, Karin and granddaughter, Kristine Washington; as well as his brother, David and sisters, Virginia and Janet. He is survived by his children, Jenny Susan (Ted) Rudberg and John (Minh) Nelson; grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Lauri Washington Sawyer, Lila; Beth (Jesse) Washington Clark, Teddy, Levi; Anna (Pete) Rudberg Speiser, Inga, Lars; John (Carly) Washington, Gus, Hugh; Eric Rudberg; David (Christina) Washington, Aiden, Peyton and Charles; and his sister, Carolyn. Memorials may be directed to the family for designations to be made at a later time.
