Derek J. Winchel, 25, of Malvern passed away on July 23, 2014. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 26, 2014 at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Malvern with burial at the Malvern Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, July 25, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Loess Hills Funeral Home in Malvern. Memorials are directed to the family. Derek John Winchel, son of John Aaron Winchel and Shelley Renae Briggs, was born on November 3, 1988 in Hamburg, Iowa. He grew up in Malvern, Iowa and participated swim team and played football for a couple of years while in school. Derek received a degree in welding and had been employed as a construction laborer. Derek was a passionate and talented artist who loved to draw. His true love was tattooing and he was aspiring to be a tattoo apprentice. Derek loved the outdoors and fishing. He also enjoyed a great looking car, especially hot rods. Derek enjoyed spending time with his family, was great with the little ones, and had fun with his friends. Derek is survived by his father John A. Winchel and wife Stacey of Malvern; mother Shelley; siblings, Sheena Winchel of Silver City, IA, Billie Joann Winchel of Warrensburg, MO, Jacob Hurley and Katlynn Hurley, both of Lincoln, NE, Danielle Hansen and husband Dane of Bellevue, NE, Cassi Walker of Council Bluffs, IA, Trey Walker of Malvern, and Chelsea Walker of Council Bluffs; his grandparents, Rexanna and William Salmons, Sr, and grandmother Janice Neal; and great grandfather John M. Winchel, all of Malvern; aunts, uncles, and cousins; and many friends, all who will hold his memory close in their hearts.
