After suffering a stroke in 1998, he retired and discovered a new interest, computers. During this time he translated many books and papers from Norwegian into English. He work has become a valuable resource for genealogical research and earned him special recognition for his contributions from the City of Voss, Norway. In following years, Dr. Nuland battled multiple medical problems including diabetes, renal failure and cancer. Stanley wed Barbara Mullen of Deerfield on October 2, 1954. He is survived by his wife and five children, Siri (Joseph) Hernandez, Jane Nuland, Andrea (Donald) Saunders, David (Carmen) Nuland, Dagny Aiken, six grandchildren, Elisa Camargo, Rachel Hernandez, Anne Rivera, Michael Hernandez, William (Kelsea) Aiken (currently serving in Afghanistan) and Hannah Aiken, Two step-grandchildren, Kyle and Bradley Saunders, six great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Lorraine Nuland, nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Fredrick and Bjarne, sister Karen Borrud, brother-in-law Einar Borrud, sister-in-law Dorothy Nuland and nephew Allen Borrud. He entered eternal life at AngelsGrace Hospice, Oconomowoc on March 25, 2010. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude for all the care and kindness he received from Brookfield Rehabilitation Center, Purity Dialysis Center and a special thank you to AngelsGrace Hospice staff for making his final days peaceful and comfortable.
