Lois B. Daron
August 12, 1935 - October 23, 2012

Lois Daron, age 77, died peacefully on Oct. 23, 2012, at Agrace HospiceCare in Madison. Born in Manitowoc, WI on Aug. 12, 1935, Lois was the only child of Lester and Ermabell Daron who preceded her in death. She lived in Cambridge, WI for 17 years, where she fulfilled her dream of building and living in a cabin in the woods, leaving there in 2010 to move back to Madison. Earlier, when living in Madison, she volunteered her time to the United Way of Dane County and the Madison Art Center. Her children remember some of her more memorable contributions to be the Art Cart project and working with sculptor William King on the fabrication and installation of ACT, the 26ft tall aluminum sculpture that stood first behind the Madison Civic Center and later moved to Olin Park. In addition, each year she did a convincing job of extolling the virtues of volunteering at the Art Fair on the Square event. Lois spent the majority of her professional career in Madison working at the University of Wisconsin as an LTE in several departments including General Engineering, Sports Medicine, Design Studies, Psychology, Language Institute, UW Transportation Center and Bacteriology. She worked hard for her money, sifting, winnowing, authorizing, adjusting, helping, calculating, expediting, organizing, juggling, reviewing, managing, supporting, correcting, finessing and filing all to help fulfill the University's mission.
She had an undeniable attachment to her cars. Her associates at the UW Engineering department helped to solidify her belief that her Ford Probe could eat your car for breakfast, and in her later years she loved the independence of driving her Smart Car around Madison with ABBA blasting from the radio. Lois's ability to engage in conversation on any subject, her persistence, emotional strength,incredible memory and her eye for design will be missed by those who knew her. She is survived by her daughter, Jill Schienle of Madison and her companion Bruce Bergold; and daughter Jennifer Schienle of Madison; her son John Schienle of Hudson, WI and his wife Julie, their daughters Ella and Annabel; and son Jay Schienle of Ebersdorf, Austria and his wife Anne, and their children Sophia, Jacob and Leah. Lois's family wishes to extend deep appreciation to the dedicated and compassionate professionals of Agrace HospiceCare. We also send out a special thanks to Dr Natalie Callander andDr. Howard Bailey along with the other health care professionals at the UW Health Carbone Cancer Center.
Lois will be throwing a party in her honor at Jenny's house, 5205 Pepin Place, Madison, WI 53705 on November 18 from 1-4pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Agrace HospiceCare, 5395 East Cheryl Parkway, Madison, WI 53711.
